Cycling Electric editor Myles Warwood tested the Explore E+ on a variety of terrains and surfaces to determine its performance. The bike was tested in multiple conditions to see how it rode, how the accessories worked, and how the motor impacted the electric bike's performance.
Warwood begins by describing the Explore E+ as an urban E-bike: “Its front suspension and thick tyres allow you to use it on soft roads. It comes equipped with mudguards, a kickstand, lights, and a rear pannier rack, so for the £2,999, you can go all in.”
Warwood was complimentary of the Yamaya SyncDrive Sport 2 motor, writing “I enjoy this motor; it has so much controllable power and is smooth and powerful, with a noticeable immediate difference in motor modes.”
He claims the motor is incredibly powerful, with 85Nm of torque, giving plenty of oomph. Warwood claims “With this bike being able to carry a lot of weight, it can smoothly deliver its power without making your bike feel jumpy.”
The Explore E+ is also equipped with the RideControl Dash, a handy 2-in-1 display that allows you to control the motor’s support modes and view all of your cycling data.
“It’s worthwhile mentioning the RideControl Dash, which is super easy to use and gives you all the relevant information you would need on a bike ride, from max speed to current speed and even your cadence. I found it all incredibly easy to use, which is always nice.”
Warwood praised the suspension for its adjustability. It can be adjusted to be as stiff as you like, or you can add a bit more travel for when you need it. This all contributed to its overall comfort, with the Cycling Electric editor claiming it is comfortable on and off-road, especially for longer rides.
“It’s a much more commuter-feel bike. It sits you upright, and the bull horns on the end of the handlebars give you a nice, comfortable grip on the bars when you’re on the bumpy stuff.”
To conclude, Warwood summarised the bike as follows: “This is an excellent cross-country commuter bike with a huge range and very good motor, and it’s comfortable to ride.”
